Greers Ferry Lake fed by the Little
Red River has created an Arkansas
vacation and recreation wonderland.
Greers Ferry and its neighboring
cities of Heber Springs and
Fairfield Bay offer many large city
amenities to this Ozark mountain
paradise area.
For any that consider retiring or
relocating, there is no place like
the Ozark mountain foothills. The
peaceful community of Greers Ferry
is known for its spectacular
scenery, temperate climate, and
friendly people. It is a community
with medical and shopping facilities
to fill all needs; social and civic
organizations to meet all interests;
and churches of most denominations.
The school district, belonging to
the NCA Association, is one of the
best in the state. Our high school's
championship basketball team and
other sports teams add much
excitement to the athletic events
held. For additional relocation
information,

Beginning in early spring, the
countryside is alive with wild
flowers, redbud and dogwood trees in
full bloom, and a vast variety of
birds ranging from bluebirds to
eagles. October brings the "Flaming
Fall Revue," when the hillsides
are afire with changing foliage. A
trip to our area is a must for the
camera "bug" or "nature lover."
Year-round fishing and the
availability to all water sports
makes Greers Ferry a vacation
wonderland and a great place to
live. Many with homes elsewhere are
discovering the pleasures and
comforts of a "winter stay" in
Greers Ferry.
There's fun just waiting for you.
And when you leave, you'll take home
great memories, but you'll leave
your heart with us.
Greers Ferry Lake:
For
most of the 20th century this area
was just another lovely section of
Arkansas with small towns connected
by trails and dirt roads, but in
1963 Greers Ferry Lake became a
reality. The U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers completed construction of
a dam (spanning the Little Red
River), which is 1,704 feet in
length and 243 feet in height,
forming a lake 50 miles long,
covering 40,000 acres, and creating
a shoreline of 343 miles. Our river
tributaries produce some of the
largest walleye in the world,
supporting a major event -- the
Walleye Run. Elevation of the lake
at top flood control pool is 487
feet above mean sea level. Most
important is that the lake ranks as
one of the most pollution-free in
the nation, providing an excellent
water playground for fishermen,
water skiers, scuba divers, and
anyone seeking fun in the sun. As
the seventh tourist destination
point in Arkansas, the lake is
dotted with first-rate marinas and
boat docks, over 1,200 public and
private camp sites, and a good
selection of motel and resort
facilities.

Fishing on Greers Ferry Lake & the
Little Red River...
Greers
Ferry Lake and it's tail water, the
Little Red River has been a popular
destination for anglers worldwide
visiting Arkansas. In our case,
"World-Class Fishing" is fact, not
hype. We can back it up with three
world-record game fish. Greers Ferry
Lake holds world records for Walleye
(22 lb 11oz) and Hybrid Striped Bass
(27 lb 5 oz). The Little Red River
tail water, which feeds into Greers
Ferry Lake, holds the current
world-record for German Brown Trout
(40 lb 4 oz).
Trophy-sized fish are common in our
waters. Savvy guides put you "on the
fish" in the lake and the river and
we have plenty campsites, cabins and
resort accommodations, ready and
waiting to make your vacation
complete.
Shopping for the Women...
Shop,
shop, shop! It is something that we
all enjoy doing. However, most of us
would love to avoid the traffic, the
giant parking lots, and the long
lines that usually accompany a
shopping trip. We often think about
how nice it would be to find good
deal and great selections without
all the trouble. That is exactly the
kind of shopping experience you will
get in Cleburne County. You will
very rarely have to deal with
traffic, the parking lots are just
the right size, and the lines are
never too long.
Nestled
in historical downtown buildings of
the many towns in Cleburne County
you will find shops of every kind.
Whether you are looking for a gift,
a new outfit, or new shoes for the
kids. And if its treasures you seek
then you can check out the many
antique shops, flea markets, and
thrift stores in the county as well.
With
Cleburne County's "Southern
hospitality" you will find it hard
not to get wrapped up in the
shopping experience. The area store
owners pride themselves upon their
great customer service. If they
don't have it then they will help
you find it or special order it for
you, all you have to do is ask. They
love to see a smiling face!
